A yorkie being over 7 lbs is just considered a fault, just like a bad front, rear, topline, ear set, etc. The truth is that there are some top winning yorkies that are in the 7 to 9 lbs range. Most of the top winning yorkies are the larger ones. The smaller yorkies that are under 5 lbs don't normally do well as group winning dogs. For me I would much prefer a yorkie that is a little over 7 lbs and very sound in body than a smaller yorkie that has poor structure.
