Here's why: My dog recently went to the vet for a teeth cleaning and he needed 12 teeth pulled! I was stunned and distraught. I thought he might need some pulled from what they said the last time i was in there but not 12! I was a little upset because when i had been in the office earlier in the year, they gave me no indication that his teeth were in such rough shape. I am aware that this is a health issue for small breeds and i plan on being more diligent going forward (teeth brushing, which he hates, and oravet gel). However, i have some questions-
1. How much will this affect his quality of life- play, eating
2. Is it abnormal for a 6 yo yorkie to need that many teeth pulled at once? (i feel like i let him down by not taking as good care of his teeth as i should have)
sorry for the long post. I appreciate any input any one has related to this matter. | oh poor little guy. I hope he is feeling better now. To be honest i cant say if it's normal or abnormal but i do know that a lot of yorkies do have dental problems. don't feel bad these things happen . the important thing is you had it taken care of and i am sure he is feeling much better now. as far as quality of life i think he will be just fine. you may have to adjust his diet if he has a hard time with his current food. if it looks like he is having a hard time chewing it you could put a little warm water on his kibble. you may want to wait a bit to to start brushing his teeth but when you do he hopefully he will not need another dental for awhile. |
