I also trained my Roxie to use the bells as a puppy. I rang the bell every time we went out and gave treats whenever she 'pottied' outside. Eventually I tied a treat to the bells to encourage her to ring them. When she went for the treat, the bells rang, we immediately went out. She caught on quickly from there...I was very generous with the treats while trying to establish the behavior and tapered it off some as time went on. To reinforce continuation of the behaviors I still give treats for bathrooming outside (just not every time). |
