I have to admit, the potty pads have made me somewhat lazy. Now that Brandi is trained using the potty pads. Other than taking her on her daily walks, I usually don't let her out just too potty. I keep the potty pads down in a designated area that she knows she is allowed to potty at anytime she likes.   
I too was worried about her being confused but she isn't. Some do get confused but I guess I got lucky with Brandi. She will potty indoors and outdoors. The only time she won't go outside is if  it is cold, wet or snowing. She will hold it until summer if she has too
