I think that would be a great starter machine! That is almost exactly like the one I have. Mine is easy to use and has been wonderful. Mine came with a instructional dvd too. It helped me figure out how to machine sew on buttons. LOL.
Craigslist is a great idea too! I see machines on their for my local area all the time.
