I am really sorry about what happened to Oliver. It could not have been prevented. The difference here is that Oliver fell and hit his head on a hard surface. He had no control over what happened. The puppy in this thread ran into something and the force of a puppy running into something would not be the same as what gravity can do. Freak accidents can happen. It's why we all watch over our babies the best we can but we can't prevent every possible strange occurrence. I have my doubts about what happened to this puppy but no one will ever know for sure unless the vet has some ideas of the amount of force that was necessary to cause that amount of damage to the puppy. Unless there was a detailed autopsy done even the vet's thoughts would be speculation. It's all very sad in any event.
When my Gracie was 13 weeks old I was sitting on the bed with her as she and a kitten smaller than she were wrestling around. I looked away for a second and next thing I knew she was on the floor (a 4' drop). She injured her back leg and we were off to the vet. (that gravity again!) Thankfully, no fracture but she could not bare weight on it for 2 days and limped for a week and a half. I know it could have been much worse. I took my bed out of the frame after that event.
