Default Jack-Jack's Story- any advise?

Hi all!
Jack- Jack was found in a stranger's backyard (it was assumed he had been tossed over a 6ft privacy fence!) horribly malnourished, you can feel each backbone he is so skinny and what is left of his coat is brittle and wiry. Found fliers were posted and the little guy was vetted. When no one came forward we went, picked him up, and gave him his forever home. We currently have him on satin balls which he gobbles right up . Naturally, he is fairly reclusive but coming around wonderfully. He is a goof- will act so happy and playful but then, suddenly, it is like he realizes he is still not quite sure about this weird, new place, and scurries off to assume his corner of the bathroom. My questions are; should we allow him to spend his days in the bathroom or leash him to get him used to us? Should we have him solely on the satin balls until we get the weight back on him or mix it with dry food- we have some dry food just out, but it goes ignored? And, in addition to the satin balls being good for his coat, is there anything you would recommend to help with that?
Thank you all very much.
