I can tell a difference up to a point. When I am ordering a Publix sub, I have so many VEGGIES on it that the premium meats and cheeses get a little lost. But if I will be eating the items" less adorned"......It HAS to be Boar's Head  |

I buy boars head for most deli cuts. The only exception would be when I buy Publix's roast beef (the bloody end) for dh. I do so because he likes that better. He used to fuss at me for paying more for Boar's head, until I made him compar it with other brands.
Saying that... you are right in that if you put a lot of other stuff on you could not really tell the difference. With a quality meat you could eat plain and it is yummy!
