Default To groom, or not to groom!

My yorkie is almost 2 and has never been to the groomer. I have always cut his hair and trimmed his nails myself. I live alone and it's hard to get him to hold still to do delicate areas (like around his eyes). I do OK, but its obviously not a professional hair-do. This may sound silly, but I'm nervous that the grooming people will be too rough with him, or that he will freak out so badly that he'll hurt himself. I need some opinions on this. I know I'm overprotective, but I can't help it. I don't want him to go through that stress if he doesn't have to. However, its getting increasingly difficult for me to do it myself. I wonder if anyone has any tips. I've thought about getting a grooming noose to use at home. What do ya'll think?
