Have you tried using a flea comb? Tiny little thing about 2.5 inches long, with about 100 tiny teeth in that small distance! You dampen the eyes with a warm water wash cloth...they love that, it is very relaxing....after those nasty eye boogers have soaked just a tad, take your flea comb and just comb them right out...gets it all! I stand at the sink with the hot water running and my son holds the dog....I do each eye and rinse the gunk off the little comb with that hot water, then go back at the nasties with the warm water that is still on the comb....takes about 1 minute per eye!
