I also have the latest iPad which has both wi fi and the data plan. As said before you don't always have to have the data plan but I do and am so glad I do. I had iPads 1 and 2 and both were wi fi only. I wasn't sure if I wanted to spend an additional $30 a month but it is worth its weight in gold. I have a desk top, an iPhone, a laptop and my iPad and I have to say I use the iPad probably 90% of the time, if not more. Love love love it
