I have a very tiny shihtzu puppy that my daughters dog gave birth to. She stayed with mom for the first 3 1/2 weeks but it soon became apparent that she was not getting her fair share. I believe she was a preemie and never was near the size of the rest of the litter. I started bottle feeding her Esiblac as a supplement but still let her stay with the siblings. after a few days I noticed she had a very strong ammonia smell and it was not due to urine from the others or herself. She also had encephaltus, her head was very swollen and she still had soft spots.
I took her to a trusted vet and he tentavily diagnosed her with a liver shunt and she did have some sinus issues. He gave her a shot of long acting antibiotic with very little hope of survival.
It is now 2 weeks later and Mia is a real fighter. After the shot she rallied and has been doing great. I noticed this past saturday evening that she was bloating. Poor baby cried all night in pain

She got nothing but karo water sunday and monday she was feeling better. My vet is only open thursday fri and sat. There are other vets in town but relatively expensive and at the moment I am seriously strapped for cash. I am switching her to goats milk and I do have lactulose ( my former husband had end stage liver disease so I am well acquainted with the serious issues we are facing and why i have lactulose on hand) I do not have the dosage for lactulose for her and have been unable to find the formula. She has been passing some stool but not nearly what she should and until she starts digesting better she will be on lite feedings.
Mia weighs 8.5 oz ( 245 grams) She was born fathers day, she doesnt even have teeth yet lol I have found recipes for diets that will work well with her once she gets a little bigger.
If someone has the dosage or the formula to get the dosage I would appreciate it. Her next feeding is due and I really want to get the lactulose in her.
