My husband got his thyroid removed about twenty years ago. He had a pre-cancerous tumor on it. The doctors (we had a second-opinion) recommended a complete removal for fear that the tumor will grow back. He's been on synthroid ever since (and for the rest of his life). My husband recovered from the surgery fine, and he has a clean bill of health.
Again, the tumor was pre-cancerous. It never became malignant (but it would have been if it was left in his body). |
