Has he had a shot at the vets recently?
A few days after one of ZoE's shots, I felt a dime size lump under her skin, then it grew to nickel size. I called the vet and he had me bring her in to look at it. Said it was a reaction to the shot she had, (thankfully, that & a lil lethargy were the only reactions...). He gave her some meds & had me monitor it. He said that it should begin to get smaller & smaller until it went away. A few weeks later it wasn't there at all.
Either way, I'd call the vet.
