Oh no! Your dad was nuts. I learned to drive in a Chevy with a big V8. It was way too much for me to handle. Press the accelerator and you are in the next state.

Going back to the cost of the Audi...I agree, they are overpriced. My 2001 VW Jetta is the same car as the Audi A4 and all of my parts have both emblems on them. Putting the parts in my car costs a third of the price as putting them in the Audi.
