10-12 weeks seems like a very long time. Callie had an ACL tear repaired as well as LP surgery in her right leg and she only had to be on crate rest for 8weeks. Instead of using a crate though I bought a baby play pen and kept it in the living room where some one was pretty much all the time so she could see people and we were able to reach in and pet her and stuff. She mostly wanted to sleep for a long time but then I would give her bully bones.
