Tibbe was chipped very soon after I got him and it worried me that he would be walking around with that thing under his skin but I relied on everybody I knew who had had it done saying the dog never seemed to notice it - and neither does Tibbe. I have pressed and palpated in the area from time to time just to be sure he doesn't squeal out or something and he doesn't seem to even notice. So, it is a comfort that at least there is a slightly increased chance that should he go missing, someone could scan him and help him find his way back to me.

Our vets around here scan for chips when dogs first come in but all I have spoken to say they don't do anything if there is a different name listed for the dog. Said they can't be involved determining ownership status or even questioning it or anything. Said so many dogs are changing hands in this country daily there is no way most of the dogs' chips are up to date so they all abandoned trying to do anything long ago.

At least shelters scan and try to locate the listed owner!
