I am so sorry for your loss
It wasn't your fault, you did everything you could. I'm sure that your post here will save many doggy lives, as we will all be more vigilant about what other wild animals drop in our yards. It's hard to see every tiny little thing that may be in our yards, but all we can do is the best we can.
