Assuming you are feeding him on the same schedule, and since he was doing fine and now not so, I'd taking him in to check for a UTI. Peeing out his schedule can indicate something is wrong. I used to use pads also, and I liked that I could see the color of the pee, and if it were dark in color or had some red, you would know there is a problem. But peeing in grass or on furniture or carpet, you can't tell what the color is.
