A lot of breeders now do their own microchipping....it is a simple procedure that only involves a large bore needle....these needles are soooooooooo very sharp, they slip right into the area they need to be positioned for correct placement of the microchip! Not a big deal at all! Like ANY other injection site, you just observe the area a couple of days for any signs of infection.
