Just thought I'd let you know what happens 'over here'!!
Puppies are USUALLY microchipped at the same time as their initial vaccinations. It's a procedure that costs about £20, but is often done 'for free' along with the first vet check, jabs etc. A law is currently trying to be passed by our government, that ALL puppies have to be chipped - they'll probably get their way in the not too distant future....
It's rarely done under sedation - the needle used is only slightly larger than the vaccine needle. The chip itself is the size of a grain of rice, and is placed between the shoulder blades. I know all of this because I was watching,
very, very closely!!!!!
