I do a few things: daily I use a flea comb to comb the hair growing from the canal and around that area (I don't pluck all of the hair out of the ear canal). This helps remove any wax or debris.
I use a good cleaning solution that has a drying agent to clean deeper down and dry up any unwanted moisture. Ideally this should be used after each bath or swimming, or once a week. Pour a little in the ear, massage the back of the ear, and then let your doggy shake her head.
I also use ear cleaning wipes to clean the outer flaps and visible areas.
