The smell you are describing sounds exactly a red yeast smell. Most of the time this will go away with a combination of Gerber Baby water (distilled drinking water) and a grain free diet. Does he seem itchy? Does he bite his paws? Do his ears smell? Another thing it could be is bad teeth. That will give a pup horrible breath and a smelly face. Try the Gerber water in a stainless steel bowl, and buy a small bag of grain/ corn free kibble. Heck, you don't really have anything to lose but the nasty smell.
