I wish I could give you a sure answer to this, Lisa. Over the years, I gave some of this shampoo to colleagues, friends, and a few people from YT whose pups were having issues with itching and hot spots, and from the feedback I got, they seemed to see results fairly quickly. I think it also depends upon what the cause of the itching stems from. If it is from having very dry skin, this shampoo should do wonders. One of my Yorkies had severe allergies, and I had to use a therapeutic medicinal shampoo at times when things got really bad. It was the best over-the-counter shampoo for her to use, however. I can just say that the people who I gave the shampoo to whose pups needed a shampoo to help them were really pleased with how much it helped them. It's not a medicated shampoo, but it is good for the skin and the hair. I'm sorry that I'm not very helpful, but perhaps you could call customer service at Jerob, and I'm sure they will help you.
