A dog can be very well loved and have horrible teeth. My mothers Bichon lost most of his teeth by 8 years of age. He could not be anesthetized for dentals to be done- She almost lost him when he was neuterd at 6 months.
Dogs quickly become unrecognizable when they get lost/separate from their family. I would have sure to notify vet offices and shelters in your area to be on the safe side.
