I started looking for the names of people living in Dallas who bred and showed Yorkshire Terriers & calling them, networked from there. I had to get a Dog Show brochure as a starting place and found one at a pet store. Talked to the Yorkshire Terrier club president and even called a couple of vet offices I trusted. Anyway, reputable breeders are very helpful and will often chat for a time, give you good insights, info on how to find what you are looking for and from there you just keep taking names, numbers and networking.

With the internet, that's pretty easy to do - without it, as when I started out, it can be frustrating at first. I still have my lists of names & numbers from years back.

Here on our site you have access to a lot of breeders listed in the Library and could even start another thread. But after looking for a rescue for over a year, I finally called my breeder & found out about Tibbe when I went to look at some puppies that another breeder had left with her as well as Tibbe & two older females. It was just happenstance as my breeder had had the dogs about a week, vetting, grooming & trying to socialize, settle them some. She hadn't even mentioned them to anyone as needing homes or anything. In my experience in talking with breeders or dog show people, they almost always know a person who has a dog needing a home. I even talked to people in Oklahoma, Colorado & New York! Network through reputable breeders and who knows what may come your way and you won't have to wonder about some unknown craigslist seller.
