That's so sad. I'm sure the police would have had a different approach when trying to reach out to a hoarder. Enlist a neighbor he trusts to get a dialogue going, set him up for counseling.... Anything other than just showing up ready to remove his belongings. It's sad that the only way they describe your neighbor is negatively like he choose to be this way.
