Give yourself a pat on the back, girlfriend. You will be a class act sewing queen in no time at all. You have the most important part -- desire to learn.

I can't help you with a brand of sewing machine. I go for bells and whistles, lol I have two computerized embroidery/sewing machines. I didn't like the way the Husqvarna embroidered so I bought a Singer. I use the Husq for sewing (can't beat it for doing fine heirloom work) and I do my embroidery on the Singer.

I would go to a store close to where you live where they have several brands, find a couple in your price range and then "test" drive them. Be sure that the folks at the store are nice and willing to spend time with you and answer your questions. GOOD LUCK. Let me know when you get your new machine.....
