Default For all you sewing folks.....

I've decided I am going to try to learn to sew again. I am pretty much self taught except for the help I get at the local fabric store when I really screw something up. I can make curtains, pillows and things like that, just haven't mastered clothing yet. Scrub tops came out looking like a tent with really small arm holes!!! Gave up after that! I have an old sewing machine, a cheap one that is about broken. It will cost more to repair it than I paid for it in the first place. So, hubby has agreed that I can get a new one. I basically want recommendations for one easy to use that works when I want it to (my current one doesn't...it has a mind of its own) and that does one step buttonholes. Also, don't want to spend as much as a car payment on it. Got any suggestions???
