A long beautiful coat is mostly genetics. Personally, I feed home cooked food to my dogs but do use kibble for convenience foods or training treats. My long haired boys eat Royal Canin foods. Teddy who has a long coat of silk eats RC Yorkshire Terrier and does very well on it.
