Question

Oh boy....that question could open up a proverbial "can of worms".

My Biewer Zacharys parents are from Germany and are IBC registered as is my baby. The Germans consider Biewers a separate breed and it is said that it has been proven genetically. They cannot be registered AKC.

American breeders are split on this. From what I have read, they either say it is a separate breed if bred Biewer to Biewer or they are bred with traditional Yorkies and the parti is just a tri colored Yorkie. I consider Zachary a Biewer Yorkie Terrier, not a Yorkie Terrier since he is registered in Germany.

Biewers tend to be less "hyper" than traditional Yorkies. Zachary is very laid back and cuddily. He has his full tail. It is against the law to dock the tail in Germany and I am glad it is.....Zachary's tail is so cute feathered like it is!!

This is a brief description of the differences as far as I know. One thing I know for SURE is that Zachary is the sweetest little guy I have ever been Mom to and if I ever got another dog, it would be another Biewer Yorkie Terrier.
