It is very sad but most of the "popular" commercial brands of food are made of poor quality ingredients. Their protein sources consist of slaughter house remnants along with a lot of grain.

A better quality food is usually more concentrated and the dogs needs to eat much less of it to get the needed nutrients. You will save money in the long run by feeding a better quality food. I live pretty far from a large city but we do have good pet food retailers within a reasonable driving distance. Sometimes you have to do a search to find them. The health problems that develop later in a dog's life from eating these cheap foods are things that you do not want to encounter later on.
