I think that if the hair on the nose grows longer, it will have more weight to keep it down naturally. Maybe try wiping gently under his eyes with a moist cotton ball to keep the stray hairs and goobies out of his eyes while it's growing. It will grow quick. You just have to resist the urge to cut it while it's in the awkward stage!
My dog has one strand of hair on the corner of only one eye that goes neither up or down: Only straight out. It makes me crazy. Every day I look at it and wonder which direction to try to make it go. I usually put it up, but it just ends up straight out again.
