I'm sorry to hear about Toby. With Grades 2 and 3, you may be able to just crate rest him with the use of medications rather than go right to surgery. My dog had both knees at Grade 4 as a pup, and one leg went lame so she had surgery at age 2. The other leg which is a grade 4 has never needed surgery as she has never gone lame. She's now 12 so they can do very well post surgery and also without surgery if rested and medicated (as long as they don't go lame). I'm glad you are going to a boarded orthopedic surgeon - this is very important in my opinion. Hope you get a good report!
