  They do have motion lights so the light is only on when it senses movement. It can be a pain if you have cats roaming around..... 
We just had a tragic accident in my area with a pool. A toddler got out of his home and wondered over to the neighbors house that had an in ground pool. They looked for a couple of hours when someone decided to look in the pool. No one had looked there because the pool had a gate around it which was supposedly latched and they also had a solar cover on it. He slipped under the cover and went to the bottom. So sad.....
