Hi Dennis ~ I'm so sorry to hear about Toby's dx; however, as others have advised, I would definitely get a second opinion from a reputable ortho surgeon. My Abi has stage 3 LP in both knees (confirmed by her vet and a reputable ortho surgeon). We were so blessed to have been sent to this surgeon, who thought of the dog...not $$$$. She said that she treats the condition individually. Some dogs live comfortably with stage 3 for years, never needing surgery. Others, have only a stage 1, and she's gone through with the procedure, because the dog is in pain almost daily, and it interferes with quality of life.

We watch Abi for signs of stress, as advised by the surgeon. Her consult was last September, and she's had only two episodes where one knee got stuck; but I was able to gently rub it out. Otherwise, she runs and plays like nothing is wrong; so it is not interfering with her life quality at this time.

I hope you find a good surgeon for a consult. Praying for Toby...
