I work with high school students with learning disabilities, ADD, autism, Asperger's, Tourrette's, and emotional problems. I am known for loving the kids who are most difficult to reach and love. There is usually so much to love in these kids once you can break down their protective barriers, and after thirty three years of teaching, my kids mean the world to me. It's funny how, no matter how guarded they are with people, generally they will show so much emotion with their dogs and are so receptive to other people's dogs. When I lost Ashley, I think my students were the most who most understood the loss. They knew how much I loved her and how much losing her affected me. I received a great deal of outpouring of love from both them and their families, even the ones who I was no longer working with.

Thank you, Patti, for sharing this beautiful story about Kyle and Nikki. They both are very special boys, and I was very moved by Kyle's compassion and love.
