My son would use one during the hottest days of the summer. He had to drive rural areas and couldn't use his car a/c. The mats did work for him for a couple of hours. He had no way of cooling the mat again though, so it wasn't that useful for his needs. If you've a refrig at the shop and can cool down the mats after they've gotten warm, I think they'll work great. Also, it's probably not near has hot in your shop as it was driving around in the 105 degree sun.
