I don't know about boarding at the vets though. My breeder, anyway, was against it. He suggested that I shouldn't keep my puppy where mostly sick animals go. He also said to never place your baby directly on the floor or even on the exam table at the vet's office (place a pad or towel on table first.) My breeder also said that if I decided to use my vet for boarding that I inquire whether someone is on premises 24/7. Maybe he's a bit over-cautious - but he's very very experienced with yorkies.
I have seen these at home services pop up - where people pet sit in their homes. The services that I've reviewed looked very good and the sitters seemed extraordinarily qualified.
I understand that you probably feel safer with your vet though. It's a very difficult decision no matter what you do!!
