Animal Smiley 036 New Yorkie Owner

I just got my first Yorkie in March of this year. His name is Dexter. At his last vet appointment he was 4 and a half months old and weighed 3 whole pounds. I have always had big dogs so this is a new one on me. I could not believe how much personality was in this tiny little package. But being a new Yorkie owner, I have questions. First off, his papers came in the mail a few weeks after we got him. I was told he was registered, but once I got the papers, I found it wasn't the AKC he was registered with. He is registered with the Continental Kennel Club. This is the first dog I have ever owned that was registered any where. Second, I found out that he is considered a "party Yorkie". I say this because he has black, brown and silver fur. So "party Yorkie" is what I found. Does that sound right? Also, I keep his fur cut short. I comb it regularly. We do a lot of camping and hiking, and Dexter is excited to join us in these adventures. The short hair just seems more reasonable with all our out door activities. Is there any upside to a long haired Yorkie? Next is he seems to have abandonment issues. On the few occasions he can't go with us, such as when we go to a restaurant or grocery shopping, I put him in my bathroom with food, water, his bed, some of his favorite toys, and a puppy pad. He will use the puppy pad, but when we get home is what is concerning me. Once we return, he climbs all over us, howls (yes howls), and whines for about an hour. I want him to feel secure when we leave. Any pointers. I'm sure I have a lot more questions and will post them as they come to me.
