I'm jumping in late here. I skimmed most of the pages in this thread, but not all.
I have success in having Tatiana come to me when I call her name. The way I "trained" her was by calling her name when it was her meal time. Tatiana loves her food, so she came running whenever I called her name and it was feeding time. I fed her three times a day, so she got "drilled" three times a day. Now, she comes running to me whenever I call her name (probably because she thinks she will get food
). For those non-meal calls, I ALWAYS pet and praise her to give her positive reinforcement. That way, she will always be happy to run to me when I call because she will either get a meal or loving attention. Incidentally, I can tell she enjoys running to me, as she bounces to me, tailing wagging. To her, it's not a command, as much as she thinks she will get "good stuff."
By the way, this technique worked on my cat, too. He passed away last year. He was 19 years old, and he came to me whenever I called his name (ever since he was a kitten).
