Depending on the degree (1,2,3 or 4) will determine if they need surgery. Many dogs go their whole lives and never need surgery. You can also ask your vet about glucosamine and chondroitin supplements that help with the dogs joints.

My Gizmo (now 2 years old, he was only a few months old also when diganosed! It can go away as they mature also, just keep an eye on them) has luxating patellas and i simply limit his jumping and am hoping we wont ever need to address this issue again!
