I did not realize when I got Gracie that so much of the terrier personality was so dominate in the Yorkie. Gracie was so little as a puppy but she had a really aggressive type of personality. She just wanted to fight and play all the time. She had no time for listening. It does take some extra patience to train a terrier. You just cannot give up or expect too much all at once. Get her exercise and wear down some of that energy before you try to work with her. Actually, sit is one of the easiest commands to teach especially if you use treats. She may only sit for 2 seconds but that is a start and gets a reward. Once she starts to realize that she is learning and doing what you say she will start to look to you as her person and she will start to depend more on you and respect you. It takes time, patience and consistent training. Don't give up but go one step at a time. People many times get these dogs because they are very cute little puppies and do not realize the commitment and work that has to go into these little dogs with such big personalities. |
