Giving her a bath is as bad as brushing or cutting her. When I give her a bath I soak her and spray her with the hose think from the sink. I got so mad at her one day and I was screaming at her and hit her, and trust me I wanted to later kill myself for it. I cried for days because I felt so bad, and now i know i will never do that EVER again. I don't know if theres anything I can do to make her like it more. ive tryed showering with her, and it doesn't seem to help all the much, a little bit. I cant even brush her paws, thats like opening a can of hell.
what can I do??
also different question, but i feel like she hates me, i sometimes forget to let her out and walk her, althought starting tomorrow shes gonna get daily walks, and be let out. I feel like she hates me and will never love me again, what should I do? |
I actually read your original post, and I believe that you will make a change for the better, and that you already know that hitting a dog as a form of correction is not the right way to handle any situation.
Please don't feel that you have to defend yourself to any posters that have not answered your question of how to make bathtime easier on your dog. You explained yourself thoroughly in your original post.
I neglected to mention grooming the feet. They get knots and mats on their feet that can be very painful when one tries to brush them out.(another very tender area) If you are going to try, be very gentle with her and give her alot of breaks. It may be best to go to a professional groomer and have any mats shaved off, rather than trying to do it yourself, then start brushing her daily to prevent it from happening again. Using alot of conditioner in the bath and during brushing will also help keep mats away.
Always end your grooming sessions with her on a positive note, and give her a treat. Don't try to get it all done in one session either... sometimes it takes me 4-5 days to get a dog completely brushed out, I do a little bit each day.
I think you can turn this around, just be patient with her and yourself.
