All great suggestions. I agree with Maximo on all points and I would add just one more: Less is more, and if you are using a lot of products on his coat, it is a good idea to use a clarifying shampoo every couple months ( more or less as needed, according to your pups hair type) to get rid of the build up that tends to "choke" the coat, so to speak. And rinse rinse rinse really well.
Maintaining a long, good condition coat, requires attention to the coat (brushing regularly, bathing, grooming), attention to nutrition (no matter what you use on the coat, it's condition starts from the inside out). whether you use hard or soft water can also affect the coats' condition
