LP can be hereditary or caused by injury. And, of cause, injury can make an existing mild problem, much worse.
Did your vet check your puppy at when you first got him? I remember ZoE's vet specifically checking all of her joints for movement at her very first exam, and then did the same at her exam before her spay at 6 months.
I'd let the breeder know Rambo's condition and discuss it with her. ZoE's breeder would definately want to know if she developed any issues. Infact, she called me just before ZoE turned one year old to see how she was doing and to make sure all was well and there were no problems with her.
Sorry to hear Rambo's had a rough time lately. Hope he's healing well and if able to get outside and enjoy the summer!
