I have found with my boys that these are the best ways for us to fight tangles:
1. Keep the coat clean as possible
2. Always rinse shampoo out really, really well
3. Use a good conditioner and try to leave it on your dog for 5 -10 minutes before rinsing (wrap in a towel to keep warm while waiting to rinse)
4. Check for tangles daily. I don't fully brush my boys every day because brushing a dirty coat causes damage, but I check for tangles and take care of them before they grow bigger and worse
5. Use great tools: Jenny (YT user Mimimomo) sells Madan products on her website TopLinePet.com. We love the Madan rat tail comb with a steel tail for detangling. We also love wood pin brushes and small combs.
6. Use a brushing spray or leave in conditioner/detangler to make brushing easier and to discourage tangling. Every coat is different and requires different products. For my boys, I use mostly Pet Silk Silk Serum. I put a little in my hands and work it through their coats. I also use Vellus anti-stat spray. There are so many great products to choose from.
