Again my condolences. I assume no necropsy was done; so you don't know the actual cause of death?

HGE is not the stomach flu at all. And no vet should diagnose a condition sight unseen and over a phone.

Despite my respect with the veterinary profession in this case and given the symptoms you described, as a dog owner and breeder, I would be on my way to the emergency hospital even if it is an hour and 1/2 drive away. At least I would have given my dog an eight hour opportunity for life in the care of specialists.

Vomitting, diarrehea, and Blood in the stool, accompanied by observed and obvious weakness is an Emergency Situation. I would continue to advise my puppy owners of the same. And if their general vet does not want to see them, I'm off to the emergency hospital.

I hope that your family heals from this loss, it is such a shame to lose a dog so young.

What is done is done in your case; but as many others read these Emergency threads, I did feel the need to put out an Alternative point of view for this situation you found yourself in.
