Fire ants are not a problem yet here in Houston...the key word being yet. We treat our yard too. Once I stood in the middle of a fire ant mound at a parade. Not much you can do when you are in the middle of hundreds of people.
I swell up huge if I get bit by one. A bee/wasp sting will send me to the hospital.

There are fire ants all over the Houston area!!! Maybe you are lucky where you are, but I can tell you they are here.
