I thought most wound care specialists were usually used for chronic, very long-term infections of diabetics, osteomyelitis, etc. I'd at least get an infectious disease consult just to be on the safe side.
I have a friend who is a wound care nurse. She is who I took Alex to see last night to make sure I wasn't over reacting. She said if I can get a referral from our PCP, she can get us in to the wound care doctor. She said the appointments are a month out but she would talk to the doctor and see if they would work him in. She thinks they should have done a bone scan on him when he was in the hospital. She felt like a wound care doctor would be good to go to because she said they are very proactive. I am honestly at my wits end on this. I am going to try to get in to see the PCP (not going to the surgeon) and see who he thinks will see Alex.
